Yuliya Samoylova, also credited as Julia Samoylova, is a Russian pop-rock singer who came to fame in 2013 when she finished as runner-up on the national version of the X Factor franchise. Confined to a wheelchair since childhood due to the condition muscular atrophy, she also took part in the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Paralympics.
She was first selected by national broadcast Russia One to represent her home country at the 2017 Contest but was forced to withdraw due to having performed in Crimea in 2015, a violation under Ukrainian law, which saw her being banned from entering Ukraine for three years.
She was internally selected to represent her home country at the 2018 Contest in Lisbon with the song "I Won't Break". She performed in the second semi final but failed to qualify for the final, ending the country's run of qualifications for the final since the introduction of the semi-finals as well as it being the first time ever since the country began competing that it would not be in the final.
