Salvador Sobral is a Portuguese jazz singer who came to attention through his participation in the third season of Ídolos, the national syndication of the Idol franchise, where he finished in seventh place. His sister, Luísa, competed on the same show six years earlier and finished in third place.
He released his debut solo album in August 2016 and since Rhen has released two further studio albums, one live album and one EP.
He won the right to represent his home country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev with the song "Amar pelos dois", which was written by his sister. The song went on to win the Contest with 758 points, the highest score under the current voting system, giving the country its first-ever win after 53 years of participation.
He appeared as himself performing his winning entry for a small crowd in the 2020 Will Ferrell film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
