Saara Aalto is a Finnish singer-songwriter and voice actress who came to fame in her homeland through her participation in The Voice of Finland where she finished as runner-up.
After the show she started releasing music via her own label and also attempted to represent her homeland at the Contest on two separate occasions (in 2011 and 2016) but finished as runner-up in the national final both times.
In 2016, she gained international recognition through her participation in the thirteenth UK season of The X Factor. Although initially eliminated at the Six Chair Challenge she was given a second chance as a wildcard for the live shows but faced the sing-off three times before gaining the support of the British public. She made it all the way to the final where she finished as runner-up to winner Matt Terry. Shortly afterwards, it was announced that she had signed a deal with Sony Music UK and Sony Music Finland but she later moved to Warner Music. She also became a judge on the second season The X Factor Suomi.
She was internally selected to represent her home country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon with the song "Monsters", which was selected by public vote during a national final. She performed in the first semi-final and qualified for the final, marking the country's first appearance in the final since the 2014 Contest in Copenhagen. She finished in second-last place with 46 points.
