Raphael is the professional name of Spanish singer Miguel Rafael Martos Sánchez. He started his the late 1950s and with worldwide sales of over 70 million records, released in multiple languages, he is recognised as one of the best-selling Spanish artists of all time.
He was first selected to represent his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1966 in Luxembourg City with the song "Yo soy aquél", which finished in 7th place with 9 points, giving the country its best result since its debut.
Returning the following year in Vienna, thus becoming the first artist to represent his country in consecutive years, he performed the song "Hablemos del amor", which improved on his result from the previous year by finishing in 6th place with 9 points. Both appearances turned him into an international star, especially in the US and Latin America.
He remained a very popular performer throughout the 1980s and 1990s and in 2000 he had a very successful seven-month stint in the Spanish version of the stage musical Jekyll & Hyde.
