Pierre Rapsat was a Belgian singer-songwriter who started his career as part of various groups before going solo in 1973. Although his music style was eclectic, delving into multiple genres including rock to chanson, it earned him very little success, which was mainly confined to Francophone countries.
He is best known internationally for representing his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1976 in The Hague with the song "Judy et Cie", which finished in 8th place with 68 points, just a single point behind the entry by Al Bano & Romina Power of Italy on their first appearance for their home country. In spite of this result, it is considered one of the country's best entries.
Post-Contest, he continued to release studio albums to critical success throughout the 1980s until his career suffered a major decline in the 1990s in France. However, this all changed with the release of his 2001 studio album which resurrected his career in France while also being successful in Switzerland and Luxembourg.
The same year, he was diagnosed with cancer and was forced to reduce live appearances while he underwent chemotherapy. His final concert appearance at a concert in Ath on 1 March 2002 before he died at home on 20 April at the age of 53.
