Muriel Day is a Northern Irish singer who made her name in the Irish showband circuit throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The first woman to do so, she was chosen to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1969 in Madrid with the song "The Wages of Love", which finished in 7th place with 10 points, giving the country its worst result since it had begun participating four years earlier in Naples.
However, she was granted the opportunity to record with songwriter Peter Warne, who had written one of that year's winning entries - "Boom Bang-a-Bang" by Lulu - and they released a song together.
Post-Contest, she moved to Canada but returned to Northern Ireland in the 1990s where she continued to perform. In 2015, she announced that she was set to release her debut album which as of 2021 remains unreleased.
