Eurovision Song Contest Wiki

Mess was an Austrian mixed-gender duo consisting of Fritz and Elisabeth 'Lizzi' Engstler. The former had started his career four years earlier with the Austro-pop band One Family, in which he was both the singer and percussionist before starting a solo project under the name of Fritz in 1980.

Together with Engstler, the duo are best known for representing their home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1982 in Harrogate with the song "Sonntag", which finished in 9th place with 57 points, just ten points behind the entry by female duo Chips of Sweden.

Post-Contest, they released a few more singles before calling time on their career. Fritz went on to join the band Joy and in 1998 he started the project Mosaro, together with his (now former) wife Karin Sahrea while Engstler went on to become a television host, musical star and singer.
