Matt Monro was an English singer whose career spanned three decades. He released nine studio albums and several singles, the best known being the song "Born Free", which was used as the theme song to the the 1966 film of the same name and subsequently won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

He was selected to represent his home nation in the Eurovision Song Contest 1964 in Copenhagenwith the song "I Love the Little Things", which finished as runner up with 17 points to "Non ho l'età" by Gigliola Cinquetti of Italy. This was the nation's fourth time in the runner up position.

By the late 1960s his popularity started to decline and he moved to the United States before returning to the UK. He continued to tour and record before his death from lung cancer on 7 February 1985 aged 54.
