Eurovision Song Contest Wiki

Maria Guinot was a Portuguese singer who started her career in the 1960s by releasing two EPs before going on an extended break.

She returned in 1981 in attempt to appear on the Eurovision stage but did not win. Returning three years later, she won the right to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984 in Luxembourg City with the song "Silêncio e tanta gente", which finished in 11th place with 38 points, just a single point behind the host country entry by Sophie Carle of Luxembourg, giving the country its best result in four years.

Post-Contest, she continued to perform and released two more studio albums over the next two decades while also collaborating with other artists.

In 2010 she suffered three strokes and as a result stopped playing the piano before dying on 3 November 2018 from a lung infection at the age of 73.
