Louis Neefs was a Belgian singer and presenter who started his career in his teens when he joined group called Sun Spot. While participating in talent competitions his distinctive voice was eventually discovered by musical talent scout Jacques Kluger, who had also discovered, among others, Bobbejaan Schoepen. Neefs signed a contract in 1958 and released his first album two years later, going on to achieve huge success in the Flemish chart and some in the Netherlands.
Returning two years later in Madrid, he represented his country for the second time with the song "Jennifer Jennings", which again finished in joint 7th place with 10 points alongside the entry by Muriel Day of Ireland.
Post-Contest, he continued to enjoy recording success with the biggest hit of his career, "Margrietje", peaking at #4 in 1972 as well as voicing Thomas O'Malley in the Dutch-language version of Disney's The Aristocats. He also presented television and radio shows for Flemish broadcaster VRT as well as becoming politically active, standing as a councillor in Mechelen.
Tragically, he died at the age of 43 on Christmas Day 1980 in a road accident in Lier, which also claimed the life of his wife and left their two young children as orphans. His son Günther went on to become a singer in the 1980s.
