Eurovision Song Contest Wiki

Kirka was the stage name of Finnish singer and musician Kirill Babitzin who started his career in the late 1960s initially as a band member before going solo. Over the course of a career lasting five decades he released over a dozen studio albums and compilations which cemented him as one of the best-selling artsts of all-time in his home country.

Having suffered from money troubles in the 1970s, he went on to represent his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984 in Luxembourg City with the song "Hengaillaan", which finished in 9th place with 46 points, giving the country its best result in seven years.

Post-Contest, he veered more towards hard rock music and was awarded the Emma award for best male singer twice before dying suddenly on 31 January 2007 at his home due to a ruptured aortic aneurysm at the age of 56.
