The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 was the 22nd edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. It was held in Madrid, Spain on 16 November 2024 in spite of Zoé Clauzure giving France its second win in three years the previous year with "Cœur, after the winning country declined to host due to financial reasons. It was held on 16 November and was the first contest since the 2015 edition to be held on a Saturday.

The United Kingdom withdrew from competing in spite of scoring two Top 5 results since their return, citing disinterest from the viewing public while both Cyprus and San Marino returned after an absence of six years and eight years respectively.

The Contest was won for the fourth time by Georgia, who was represented by singer Andria Putkaradze and his entry "To My Mom" while Portugal achieved its best result to date in the junior edition by finishing as runner up.

Location

Unlike in the adult Contest, the winning country in the junior edition did not receive the automatic rights to host the next Contest.

On 14 February 2024 it was officially confirmed that the Contest will be held in Spain, in spite of the country having finished as runner up at the 2023 edition in Paris with the song "LOVIU" by Sandra Valero.

Venue

On 10 May 2024, during the adult Contest, the selected host city was revealed to be Madrid with the Caja Mágica being named as the selected venue.

This is a multi-purpose stadium located in Madrid, Spain, which has been the home of the Madrid Open tennis tournament since 2009.

Production

French broadcaster France Télévisions announced on 27 November 2023 that talks would be conducted with the EBU regarding the hosting of the 2024 contest, as multiple countries expressed interest in hosting the competition.

With the 2024 Summer Olympics scheduled to take place in Paris, the country declined hosting the 2024 Contest due to the potential financial strain that the Games would have on the broadcaster.

In April 2024, it was reported that RTVE had started negotiations with María Isabel to be a guest or host at the contest on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of her victory in 2004. The presenting job ultimately went to singer Ruth Lorenzo, who represented the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, TV presenter Marc Clotet and singer Melani García, who represented the country in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Gliwice-Silesia.
