Jürgen Marcus was the professional name of German schlager singer Jürgen Beumer who started his career in 1970 and enjoyed almost immediate success, scoring a myriad of hits in his home country. He was also a regular on German TV music shows, and in 1972 appeared in a film Heut hau'n wir auf die Pauke.
After failing to represent his home country the previous year, he was internally selected to represent Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest 1976 in The Hague with the song "Chansons pour ceux qui s'aiment", which finished in a disappointing 14th place with 17 points, just 3 points behind the entry by Mariza Koch of Greece.
Post-Contest, his career saw a decline and following a minor hit in 1981, he disappeared from public view. He returned to the music scene with a new studio album in 2004 which was followed two years later by a Christmas album and a further two years later by another studio album. His final studio album was released in 2011.
Six years later, he called an end to his career, citing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as the reason, and died in May of the following year at the age of 69, just a few weeks short of his birthday.
