Iva Zanicchi is an Italian singer and politician who started her career in 1963, being dubbed by the press as "Eagle of Ligonchio" due to her mezzo-soprano voice. To date, she has released over a dozen studio albums and singles.
She was selected to represent her home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1969 in Madrid with the song "Due grosse lacrime bianche", which finished in joint 13th place with 5 points alongside the entry by Ivan Krajač & 3M of Yugoslavia.
She also participated in the Festival di Sanremo in 1967 and 1974, winning on both occasions which makes her the only woman to have won it three times.
Post-Contest, she toured all over the world, including performances in Madison Square Gardens in New York and collaborated with singers with Mikis Theodorakis, Charles Aznavour and Luigi Tenco. She also released several albums including a Christmas-themed, Neapolitan and Spanish language recordings.
Between 1987 and 2000, she hosted the national syndication of the game show The Price is Right, becoming the first-ever wom to do so anywhere in the world before entering the world of politics in 2004 as a candidate for Forza Italia at the European Parliament elections, failing to be elected. In 2008 she became a Member of the European Parliament, representing Forza Italia. She confirmed in the position at the European elections of June 2009.
