Ingvar Wixell was a Swedish baritone whose career began in 1955. During his career, he performed worldwide in well-known operas such as Mozart's "The Magic Flute" and Rossini's "The Barber of Seville".
Having been the sole participant in the country's national selection show, he represented his home country at the Eurovision Song Contest 1965 in Naples with the song "Absent Friend", which as well as being the country's first-ever entry in English was also the first-ever one not sung in its native language. It finished in 10th place with 6 points, just a single point behind the entry by Marjorie Noël of Monaco..
Post-Contest, Wixell continued his opera career until his retirement in 2003. He died on 8 October 2011 at the age of 80.
