Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson is an Icelandic singer and producer who started his career in 1987 and is best known as the lead singer of the bands GusGus, Nýdönsk, and Esja.
He is best known internationally for representing his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 in Lausanne with the song "Það sem enginn sér", which finished in last place with Nul Points, its first time to suffer this fate since its debut three years earlier in Bergen.
Post-Contest, he released five studio albums with the band Nýdönsk, he produced an album with the electronic rock group Bubbleflies. Aside from his music career, he branched out into acting, playing roles in West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar and Stone Free. Film directors Arni and Kinski approached him to play a lead role in their short film Nautn and during production, he founded GusGus in 1995 with Kinski.
He took a break from the band in 2000 to write music for both TV and documentary films and compose music for the Iceland Dance Company. He released his first solo album and formed a collaborated with heavy metal band Mínus front man Krummi Björgvinsson and went on to release a self-titled album in 2008.
He rejoined GusGus to release more music and they toured extensively throughout Europe before releasing his second solo album The Drift in 2011.
