Eurovision Song Contest Wiki

Carlos Paião was a Portuguese singer who initially trained to be a doctor before turning his attention to music in the early 1980s. Throughout the decade he released two studio albums and several singles.

He is best known internationally for representing his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 in Dublin with the song "Playback", which finished in joint 18th place with 9 points alongside the entry by the band Modern Folk Trio and singer Ayşegül of Turkey.

In late August 1988, his life was tragically cut short at the age of 30 when he was involved in a head-on collision with a truck that was irregularly overtaking a broken car.
