Birthe Wilke is a Danish singer who began her career in her teens after winning a talent competition at the National Scala Theatre in Copenhagen.
She was chosen to represent her home country alongside Gustav Winckler on its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest 1957 in Frankfurt am Main with the song "Skibet skal sejle i nat", which finished in 3rd place with 10 points. They were the first duo to appear at the Contest.
She returned to the Eurovision stage two years later in Cannes, again representing her home country with the song "Uh, jeg ville ønske jeg var dig", which finished in 5th place with 12 points.
After touring throughout the late 1950s and 1960s, she announced her retirement from the spotlight in 1966 but made a short-lived return in 1973.
