Eurovision Song Contest Wiki

Birthe Kjær is a Danish singer who began her career in the late 1960s and to date has released over a dozen studio albums and singles.

After three previous failed attempts which resulted in runner up positions each time, she was selected to represent her home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 with the song "Vi maler byen rød", which finished in 3rd place with 111 points, the country's second consecutive Top 3 result, which would be their last until their victory in Stockholm eleven years later.

She went on to host Danish national final in 1990, before attempting to represent the country again the following year, finishing in 3rd place with "Din musik, min musik".

In 2004 she teamed up with Danish electronic percussion duo Safri Duo to record that year's anthem for the 2004 UEFA European Football Championship. The following year, she participated in the national syndication of the Dancing with the Stars franchise before withdrawing due to a heart attack. In 2009, she once again acted as host in the national final.
