Birgit Brüel was a Danish singer whose career began in 1950 when she joined the Max Brüel Quartet as a jazz singer and coming to national attention as a theatre and screen actress.
She came to international attention when she was selected to represent her home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1965 in Naples with the song "For din skyld", which finished in 7th place with 10 points.
Post-Contest, she was involved with a feminist theater group and continued to release music as well as acting in numerous television and films up to the 1990s before dying of undisclosed causes at the age of 68 on 23 February 1996.
