Betty Mars was the stage name of French pop and chanson singer and actress Yvette Baheux. Developing a taste for dance and acrobatics at an early age, by the age of 16 she became a familiar face as a performer in revues and spent the decade traveling around Europe and the Americas as a lead performer in shows.
In 1971 she was noticed as a singer in cabaret by composer Frédéric Botton and was offered a music career. The following year, she was selected to represent her home country on the Contest stage with the song "Comé-comédie", which finished in 11th place with 81 points, just 2 points behind the entry by Jaime Morey of Spain.
Post-Contest, she continued to record and release music and also moved in the world of acting, appearing in several films. The following decade saw her career go into a major decline and facing severe financial and emotional problems she decided to end her life by jumping from a window of her flat on 31 January 1989, dying from her injuries three weeks later on 20 February at the age of 44.
