Ben Cramer is a Dutch singer who started his career in 1966 when he made his television debut with his backing group the Spaklings and was offered a record deal. To date, he has released several studio albums and singles.
After a previous failed attempt, he was selected to represent his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1973 in Luxembourg City with the song "De oude muzikant", which finished in 14th place with 69 points, just 5 points behind the entry by Massimo Ranieri of Italy, giving the country its worst result in six years.
Post-Contest, he made one more attempt to represent his country on the Eurovision stage - in 1981 performing two songs in the national selection that finished low down on the leaderboard.
Throughout the rest of the decade he turned his attention to stage musicals, starring as Juan Perón in the musical Evita, and went on to appear in many Dutch-language stage productions, such as Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera. He also provided radio commentary for the 1988 Contest in Dublin.
Aside from stage acting, he also made an appearance in television programmes such as the drama series Westenwind and the Dutch version of Celebrity Big Brother and in 2009 appeared as a special guest at that year's televised Eurovision national selection.
