Austria has participated in the Contest 56 times since its debut at the Eurovision Song Contest 1957 in Frankfurt-am-Main. They have won three times: in 1966 with the song "Merci, chérie" by Udo Jürgens, in 2014, with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix" by Conchita Wurst, setting the record for the longest gap between wins, with 48 years between both victories, and 2025 with the song "Wasted Love" by JJ.
They have finished last in the final a total of eight times, in 1957, 1961, 1962, 1979, 1984, 1988, 1991 and 2015 - the latter on home soil, making them the first-ever host nation to suffer this fate. Since the introduction of the semi-finals, they have failed to qualify for the final seven times.
