Armando Gama was a Portuguese singer-songwriter and baritone opera singer who started his career in 1971 when he scored his first #1 single in his home country. He subsequently released over a dozen studio albums and singles throughout the next five decades and sold five million records.

He is best known internationally for representing his home country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1983 in Munich with the song "Esta balada que te dou", which finished in 13th place with 33 points, just 9 points behind the entries by Riccardo Fogli of Italy and Ami Aspelund of Finland.

In later years, he continued to perform and presented a live show called "Armando Gama: The Fifth Beatle," in which he performed cover versions of well-known songs by The Beatles. He died of pancreatic cancer in Lisbon on 17 January 2022, at the age of 67.
