Alexia Vassiliou, known professionally by her first name, is a Greek-Cypriot pop and jazz singer. She began her career in the early 1980s and to date has released over twenty studio albums and several singles.
She first appeared at the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 in Dublin representing her home country as part of the group Island with the song "Monika", which finished in 6th place with 69 points.
She returned six years later in Brussels as a soloist to represent her home country with the song "Aspro mavro", which finished in 7th place with 80 points, just 3 points behind the entries by Marcha of The Netherlands and Anne-Cathrine Herdorf & Bandjo of Denmark respectively.
